How the Fashion Crowd Gets in Shape: L.A. Edition
L.A.—or, as we like to call it, land of palm trees, naturally-balayaged hair, and toned, tanned bodies. If you’ve ever wondered where the bloggers, models, celebs, and designers you follow on Instagram for #fitspo get their workout fix, consider this your guide. Ahead, you’ll find the trainers and gyms the fashion crowd loves—from the boxing gym fashion blogger Shea Marie frequents to the dance guru Rosie Huntington-Whiteley works out with. Keep scrolling to see them all!
It’s hard to say “Los Angeles” and “workout” without immediately thinking of Anderson, who trains celebrities like Gwyneth Paltrow and It-girl bloggers like Cara Santana. Her eponymous Method is legendary, and focuses on strengthening small “accessory muscles.” The result? Long, lean limbs, à la Gwyneth.
Another heavy hitter with the fashion crowd? Simone De La Rue, who started Body by Simone and counts clients like Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Naomi Watts, and Chrissy Teigen, as well as jewelry designer Jennifer Fisher. Her dance-based workout involves full-body, high-intensity dance cardio. Prepare to sweat.
Not in L.A.? You can also check out De La Rue’s book, Body by Simone: The 8-Week Total Body Makeover Plan ($20).
SoulCycle needs no introduction, really. Top models like Sigrid Agren frequent the studios when they need to break a sweat and cycle away their worries to pounding bass.

Not for the faint of heart, Barry’s Bootcamp offers hour-long workouts that are half interval treadmill routines and half strength training, self-proclaiming that it’s the “best workout in the world.” Christy Turlington has been known to sweat it out here, as well as Ellie Goulding and even Kim Kardashian.
Gunnar has reached first-name-only status through his work with J.Lo, Sofía Vergara, Shay Mitchell, and, most recently, Khloe Kardashian. The industry vet tailors his training techniques to each of his clients, with a focus on strength training that can transfer from the gym to daily life. (In case you were curious, we got him to share his No. 1 tip for a Kardashian booty—you’re welcome.)
Weber is a personal trainer who works with top bloggers like Geri Hirsch of Because I’m Addicted and Jaycee of Damsel in Dior, as well as stylists like Monica Rose, who dresses the Kardashians. Hirsch shared this video she did with Weber demonstrating the best exercises for better posture, but other than that, Weber seems to be an enigma—but his client list speaks for itself.
This under-the-radar gym in West Hollywood might not seem like an It-crowd haunt—its website is filled with photos of professional athletes and things like “NFL Vet Training”—but it has a surprisingly fashionable client list, too. Tara Swennen (who styles Kristen Stew and Emily Ratajkowski) and model Devon Windsor both train with Alex Fine, a former Central Michigan football player.
L.A. personal trainer Fred Khorshidi is the go-to for fashion crowd members like Kelly Osbourne, Jessica Alba, and Erin Foster. Fun fact: He also is the founder and CEO of a healthy meal-prep business called SimpleFoods, which he started as a response to his clients’ requests for clean, fresh food.
Boxing is having a serious moment among models like Gigi Hadid, and there is no more popular L.A. haunt than Prevail. (Shea Marie of Peace Love Shea is just one blogger who has proclaimed her love for the gym.) Though you may find yourself among a sea of leggy models during any given class, the workout itself is the opposite of intimidating, and consists of high-energy group boxing with a heart-thumping soundtrack.

You may not associate this gothic-style gym with the fashion crowd, but it’s a surprisingly hot hub for up-and-coming models. The gym's newest class was created with these models in mind, as well as anyone who wants to get lean and toned like one of them: Fluidity Studio Barre combines extensive research in exercise physiology with ballet for catwalk-ready legs.
For a post-gym refresh, we recommend tossing Pacifica’s Purify Coconut Water Cleansing Wipes ($6) in your gym bag.
