As with most holidays, New Year's Eve always has a tendency to creep up. If you haven't planned your makeup look for tonight, don't panic. There are a lot of party looks you can create using the contents of your makeup bag. Whether you want to bring your beauty A-game or you want a pared-back look to let your outfit take centre stage, we have the inspiration you need.

Of course, we cast our expert eye over to Pinterest (our source for beauty and home inspiration) and have edited down the mass of pins to seven party makeup looks you can turnaround in minutes, leaving you with more time to drink bubbles (you know, the important things).

Keep scrolling for easy makeup ideas you can totally try tonight.

The Zesty Lip

You may be leaning towards a more classic post box red, but your summer orange-toned red lipstick is a perfect choice right now. The warmer, zestier tones will brighten your complexion making your skin tone look warmer (dare we say, even a little tanned) so you'll exude a healthy glow, even if the excesses of Christmas have left you feeling anything but healthy and glowy. Don't own an orangey-red but want to try the look? We love MAC classic Lipstick in Lady Danger (£16).

The Standout Lashes

Want to keep your makeup look simple, but still want to elevate it from the everyday? Make like Olivia Palermo and load up your lashes with numerous layers of mascara. The key to avoiding clumps is to layer up when the coats are still wet, so don't hang around. Keep a brow comb close at hand to comb through any clumps as you go. If you want even thicker lashes without using falsies, grab some talc or loose eye shadow pigment (in black or brown, if you have it) and dust it onto your lashes in-between coats.

The Dark Romance Look

A big autumn/winter 2016 beauty trend, dark romance is all about strong brows, and richly pigmented burgundy lips. To keep it from looking too vampy, keep lashes to a minimum and just tightline (where you apply liner as close to the lash roots and in the waterline only) for definition. To keep skin fresh and dewy, try Charlotte Tilbury Lipstick in Night Crimson (£23) and use Stila Aqua Glow Serum Foundation (£35), which covers blemishes but leaves your complexion glowing.

The Smudgy Eye

Like a messier makeup look? A bit rocker-chic? Then load up your lashes for a clumpier look and smudge a charcoal or dark chocolate eye shadow around your lash line and blend it out.

The Classic Pin-Up

If in doubt, go with the classic combination of red lipstick and black liner flicks. But rather than wearing a full-coverage foundation as the old Hollywood stars did, let your natural skin tone and freckles shine through.

The Rose-Tinted Shadow

If you have blue or green eyes, a rose or rust-hued eye shadow will make your eyes pop. If you don't own a pink eye shadow (not many of us do), use your blusher instead and apply it as you would a smoky eye shadow.

The Grown-Up Glitter

We left this one for last as glitter isn't exactly a makeup bag staple, but if you do have a glittery eye shadow tucked in one of your palettes or a pot of glitter in the back of your drawer, smudge the shimmer onto your eyes for the perfect festive hurrah!
