How To Apply Bright Eyeliner in 5 Easy Steps
Now that celebrity makeup artist Lauren Andersen has taught us how to contour, it’s time for our next tutorial with the powerhouse artist: bright blue liner! Turquoise eye makeup isn’t for the faint of heart, but thanks to Andersen’s easy how-to, it can be one of the easiest things to pull off.
Tip: If blue’s not your thing, just sub in any bright liner. “Blue looks especially great on people with blue or brown eyes,” Andersen says. “Purple looks great on green eyes and redheads, and teal is just so cool, it will work on anyone.”

Before you reach for your liner, do your makeup as you normally would for day. We suggest light face makeup, a touch of bronzer, a pinky blush and lip color, a bone-colored shadow, and black mascara on the top lashes only.
Tip: Layering a brown or black liner will muddy the bright liner and completely change the look, so steer clear.
Grab your liner: we like Avon’s Glimmerstick Eye Liner ($7) in Blue Flare and Urban Decay’s 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil ($20) in Electric. The first step is to color your waterline. “Gently pull down your bottom lashline a tiny bit, and apply the color in a thick line from the inside all the way to the outside of your eyes,” Andersen says.
For the final step you’ll need a flat shadow brush. Andersen used M.A.C.’s discontinued No. 272 brush, but you can get the same result with the brand’s 266 Small Angle Brush ($26). “Take a flat shadow brush and slowly buff the color into your lashline,” Andersen says. “Then, using the color you’ve picked up on the brush, slightly extend it up and out.”
