The 7 Best MAC Products, According to MAC Senior Artists
MAC is the Angelina Jolie of makeup—it’s timeless and boundary-breaking, and everyone still obsesses over everything the brand does. Both nostalgia-inducing and cutting-edge, MAC reinvents itself each month with its many collections and collaborations (from Ariana Grande toThe Simpsons, etc.) while managing to stay true to its core: namely, creating powerfully pigmented, kickass makeup products. We all have our tried-and-true favourites (what’s up, Mineralize Skinfinish, £24?), but MAC’s collection is so vast, so all-encompassing, that we were curious what we’ve been missing out on. And who better to school us than those tasked with playing with MAC products for a living? (Also: #goals.) Ahead, you’ll find seven MAC products—some you might recognise, others you may have never heard of—that the brand’s expert makeup artists absolutely swear by. We suggest making room in your makeup bag… oh, um, now.

MAC Plushglass in Fulfilled (£18)
This peachy-toned lip gloss is a favourite of MAC senior artist John Stapleton for many reasons. “It is the perfect, innocent, coral see-through tone that looks like baby lips,” he says. “It’s gorgeous on all skin tones with the added benefit of lip plumping; bee-stung but beautiful.”
MAC Mineralize Volcanic Ash Exfoliator (£22)
Most people might associate MAC with makeup, but the brand’s skincare offerings are worth paying attention to. “I trained as an esthetician and I’m devout about effective skincare,” says MAC senior artist Fatima Thomas. “MAC Volcanic Ash Exfoliator is my go-to for keeping my face, back, and décolletage blemish-free in summer.”
MAC Prep + Prime Skin Refined Zone Treatment ($17)
This lightweight, oil-free emulsion makes pores disappear upon contact and also promises to control oil—just tap it in areas where you need shine-control, or apply it all over for all-day protection. “I keep a small surplus of it in my bag for professional and personal use,” Thomas says. “Dewy skin is the most lovely when well-placed and balanced with shine control.”
MAC Fast Response Eye Cream ($22)
Surprise! MAC makes a low-key amazing eye cream. “It’s one of my desert-island products,” raves MAC senior artist Keri Blair. “It smooths, soothes, and de-puffs whatever it touches. I also love it for quick cleanups under the eyes and when creating interesting-shaped liner.” A de-puffing eye cream that also works as a magic eraser for eye makeup? We’ll be snatching one up ASAP.
MAC Prep + Prime Fix+ Finishing Mist (£17)
Bid your average face mist adieu with this do-it-all pick from MAC—there’s a reason it’s a staple in almost every makeup artist’s kit. “It’s a before, during, and after vitamin mist that you can use before your makeup to plump up the skin and hydrate it, during your makeup application to set your makeup once it’s on, and after your makeup application to keep your face looking and feeling fresh throughout the day,” explains MAC Director of Makeup Artistry Gregory Arlt. “I am obsessed.”
MAC Lustregloss in Love Nectar (£15)
Arlt tells us he doesn’t travel anywhere without this gloss in his kit. Why? “It’s the perfect blend of peachy coral and pink with generous amounts of pearl for high shine,” he says. “And it’s more creamy than glossy, so it feels comfortable on the lips. It works on every skin tone, too!”

MAC Liquidlast Liner (£16)
Nothing is worse than smudgy, raccoon-like eyeliner, which is why MAC senior artist Ashley Rudder only uses the brand’s Liquidlast. “A frustration of mine is that most eyeliners transfer onto my eyelid due to my eye shape, but when I use Liquidlast, my liner is gorgeous all day,” she says. “It’s waterproof, so it doesn’t move until I’m ready to take it off!”
